About NRDC: Annual Report

Below the surface of the ocean is a world of sound. In the dark of the deep sea, many of the ocean's inhabitants rely on sound to find food and mates, care for their young, and avoid predators. But high-intensity military sonar is being used throughout the world's oceans in a way that needlessly threatens whales and other marine mammals. For more than a decade, NRDC has been at the forefront of efforts to protect marine life from dangerous sonar, including repeated success in enforcing our federal environmental laws. In 2008 we continued our fight for common sense safeguards -- all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
See the complete Oceans of this report (in pdf format, 468k) for more about our work, including our work regarding safer swimming at our nation's beaches.
