High indoor air quality is achieved at the NRDC offices by using non-toxic paints, carpets installed with non-toxic adhesives; cabinets and shelves made with wheatboard instead of formaldehyde-containing particleboard.

Energy efficiency is enhanced by careful lighting design including clerestory windows which allow both electric light and sunlight from the outside windows to reach into the interior hallways and offices.
