Ravaged Lands

Coal mining causes massive destruction to our landscapes. Mining operations have ruined millions of acres of forest and other habitat in the United States. A particularly radical practice is mountaintop removal, which shears off peaks, fills in valleys and can severely impair streams or bury them entirely. It also ravages the human landscape, creating unsafe and unlivable conditions for residents.
