Why choose

19th century pollution

Water Contamination

Acid mine drainage from coal mines contaminates nearby streams, ponds and groundwater, making them unfit for drinking, recreation and wildlife. Water quality is also affected by increased sedimentation. In areas where mountaintop removal mining is practiced, streams are often buried. The miles of waterways harmed by mountaintop removal, when added together, would make a river nearly as long as the Mississippi.
