For 600 years, Adelie penguins have made this island their nesting grounds. However, in the last 25 years, over half of the island's nesting pairs have disappeared, and nearby Adelie colonies have declined. Rising winter temperatures mean more snow. Adelies, loyal to nesting grounds, lay eggs on the snow anyway, only to have their eggs die due to the snowy conditions.
