CROSSING A CLIMATE WATERSHED, Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Alaska.

Caribou are susceptible to changes in climate, vegetation, and human activity. The tundra is now blooming slightly earlier and is experiencing drier summers and heavier winter snow. While earlier vegetation can provide nutrition for the caribou and their calves, a dry summer means the caribou will gain less weight, making it difficult for them to survive the winter.
