How green are the Bay Area's legislators? Very green, it turns out. The region's state and national lawmakers consistently earn some of the highest ratings from watchdog groups that evaluate environmental voting records. That makes the Bay Area a base for some of the country's most progressive environmental politicians.
Findings
NRDC analysts examined recent ratings of Bay Area legislators' voting records on bills that affect the environment. The ratings were compiled by two respected nonprofit groups, the League of Conservation Voters and the California League of Conservation Voters, which evaluate national and state lawmakers, respectively. Both groups gave Bay Area legislators high marks. In fact, the region's delegations earned ratings significantly higher than both the national and state averages.
