Take action on the Bay Area's behalf. Here are some ways you can help native species thrive.
- Never pour aquarium water down a storm drain or in local water bodies -- pour it down the toilet instead. If you need to dispose of an aquarium, consider donating it to a school. See the Preventing Introductions page on the U.C. Davis website for more information.
- Plant local species in your yard instead of invasive ones. See our list of nurseries that sell plants and seeds native to the Bay Area, and get more information on native plants, as well as the effects of invasive species, at the California Native Plant Society.
- You'll find lots more Bay Area green-living tips in our Green Gate Green Guides. And to keep informed and take action on the latest issues affecting the Bay Area and the rest of California, join NRDC's California Activist Network.
