Dear {NAME OF SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER},

I am a student concerned about our school district's 
use of diesel buses. Diesel fuel is extremely 
polluting. Diesel trucks and buses are one of the 
biggest sources of smog and it is also hazardous to 
people's health. It contains high levels of tiny 
particles that can enter our lungs and cause breathing 
difficulties. It also has been shown to cause cancer.

When diesel school buses travel through our school 
district, people are forced to breathe dirty diesel 
smoke. And students who take the bus to school are at 
risk when diesel exhaust gets inside.

In the future, please buy only buses that use cleaner, 
safer fuels for our school district. Examples include 
propane and  compressed natural gas -- but not 
"green diesel," which is not enough of an 
improvement over standard diesel fuels. Many school 
districts across the United States have already 
switched to these cleaner buses.

Please protect the health of students throughout our 
district by buying these cleaner, safer buses.
