Photo of China's greenest building

Invisible helpers
Many of the building's green elements are hardly noticeable. They just quietly contribute to environmental preservation as well as the pleasant and healthy atmosphere. For instance, foam insulation inserted into cinder block walls increases energy efficiency. Low-emission paints improve indoor air quality and a CFC-free cooling system helps protect the ozone layer. Materials such as stone and wood were carefully selected for environmental friendliness -- they were sustainably grown or produced within 500 miles of the building site. Construction waste takes up a huge amount of landfill space, so the project team made sure that 75 percent of the construction waste on this building site was recycled.
