NATURAL BRIDGES NATIONAL MONUMENT -- Though most visitors drive the circular loop through the park and make short hikes to each of its three natural bridges (Sipapu, Kachina and Owachomo), the Monument tells a far richer tale to those who spend the time walking the nine-mile trail that travels beneath and between the bridges. Nestled against the canyon walls, numerous ancient Anasazi ruins remain remarkably intact, including this building, which was not discovered by a ranger until quite recently, with its original roof and wall plaster still in place after nearly 1,000 years. The largest of the natural bridges spans 270 feet.
