NRDC Launches Free Online B-Roll Service for TV and Web Journalists Covering Environmental Stories
Journalists Can Download Broadcast Quality Video, Order Tapes, Arrange Satellite Feeds

SAN FRANCISCO (April 22, 2008) – A new video service will make it easier for broadcast and Internet journalists covering environmental stories to acquire high quality video in time to meet their deadlines. The Natural Resources Defense Council’s (NRDC) new digital newsroom is designed to help journalists better illustrate their stories. The digital newsroom is a website offering broadcast quality b-roll, illustrating current environmental topics making headlines. It is on the Web at http://nrdc.mediaseed.tv/.

The digital newsroom features an easy-to-navigate interface making it easy for journalists to preview video clips and other multimedia assets, download broadcast-quality MPEG 2 files via FTP or direct download, order beta tapes, or even arrange a satellite feed. Technical support is available 24/7 from Mediaseed, a division of Medialink, which is hosting the service for NRDC. All assets are available for unrestricted use and free of charge to registered journalists.

The digital newsroom is organized by story topics, such as “global warming pollution and solutions” and “polar bears.” In addition to hard-to-find footage of elusive wildlife, remote landscapes and clean technology solutions, it features soundbites from NRDC experts, press releases and other background materials to help broadcast journalists cover environmental stories on tight deadlines.

The newsroom is regularly updated with fresh new material. Below is a list of current story topics:

  • Buffalo Slaughter in Yellowstone
  • Global Warming Pollution and Solutions
  • Enforcing Clean Water Standards
  • Bush Administration Misses Deadline for Polar Bear Endangered Species Act Listing
  • Conservation Groups Sue to Stop Government Plan to Kill Endangered Wolves
  • Yellowstone Grizzly Bears
  • Whales/Navy Sonar
  • San Joaquin River Restoration

Anyone can preview content on the digital newsroom. Journalists who want to download or order high-res broadcast quality footage, must first register. Online registration is fast and easy.
