WASHINGTON (December 17, 2011) -- Susan Casey-Lefkowitz, director of the international program at the Natural Resources Defense Council, issued the following statement upon Senate passage today of the tax-cut extension bill, which included a provision forcing an Obama administration decision on the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline:
"The Republican stampede to build the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline is going to backfire. In forcing President Obama to reach a hasty decision -- which he has said he would not do -- the president will have no choice but to reject the pipeline as not in the national interest.”
