WASHINGTON (February 1, 2013) – Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced today he will leave office.
Natural Resources Defense Council Executive Director Peter Lehner made the following statement:
"With Steven Chu at the helm of the Department of Energy, America has doubled the electricity we get from wind and solar; we’ve implemented energy efficiency standards that will save us billions and we’ve spurred essential innovation in areas from biofuels to batteries that will keep us moving forward in the future.
“Despite endless politically motivated attacks all along the way, Dr. Chu has been an invaluable guide on our path toward energy independence that doesn’t keep us shackled to fossil fuels. He exemplifies the kind of leadership we’ll need in our next energy secretary.”
