DEBBIE HAMMEL is a senior resource specialist with NRDC's forests project. Based in the San Francisco office, she works on identifying and protecting endangered forests by assisting corporations in the development of procurement policies and supply chain management tools that are used to avoid wood products derived from these regions. She has more than 18 years of experience in designing third-party environmental certification systems, and is an internationally recognized expert on forest management, supply chain management and chain-of-custody certification. She holds a bachelor's degree in conservation of resource sciences from the University of California at Berkeley.

DAVID G. HAWKINS is the director of NRDC's climate center. He joined NRDC as an attorney in 1971 and worked on air pollution issues until 1977, when he was appointed assistant administrator for Air, Noise and Radiation at the Environmental Protection Agency during the Carter administration. David returned to NRDC in 1981 and worked throughout the next decade primarily on reauthorizing the Clean Air Act. David was the director of NRDC's air and energy program from 1990 to 2001, until he became director of the newly-created climate center. David is a recognized expert on advanced coal technologies and carbon capture and storage, and is working with Congress to design a legislative mechanism to reduce global warming emissions. David has an English degree from Yale College and a law degree from Columbia University.

HENRY HENDERSON is the director of NRDC's Midwest office, which opened in Chicago in 2007. Before joining NRDC, Henry served as a partner in the Chicago-based environmental consulting firm Policy Solutions Ltd. Henry was the founding commissioner for the City of Chicago's Department of Environment from 1992 to 1998. As commissioner, he developed an environmental mission for the city, which included the development of the Chicago Brownfield Initiative, a natural resources rehabilitation initiative, the city's energy policies and utility regulations, and Chicago's clean air initiative to improve regional air quality while promoting economic development. Henry served as the Illinois assistant attorney general from 1985 to 1987. Over the past 10 years he has taught environmental law and policy at the University of Chicago, the University of Illinois and Kent College of Law.

ALLEN HERSHKOWITZ, an internationally recognized expert in the field of solid waste management, is director of NRDC's national solid waste project and NRDC's paper industry reform project. Allen coordinates many institutional greening initiatives, including the greening of the 2007 Academy Awards telecast, the 50th Anniversary Grammy Awards, Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League. He is also coordinating the greening of the Warner Music Group and Capitol Records. Allen has served on committees of the National Research Council, the EPA Science Advisory Board and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Control. At present, his work at NRDC is focused on sustainable development, the paper industry, industrial ecology and recycling. His numerous publications include Bronx Ecology: Blueprint for a New Environmentalism and Too Good to Throw Away: Recycling's Proven Record. Allen has a doctorate in political economics from the City University of New York and has been with NRDC since 1988.

ANTONIA HERZOG is a scientist in NRDC's climate center, where she focuses on climate change and energy policies. She is involved in developing federal legislation that would take an integrated approach to reducing carbon, nitrogen, sulfur and mercury pollution from electric power plants. She was a congressional legislative science fellow in the office of Senator John D. Rockefeller and a postdoctoral fellow in the Energy and Resources Group at the University of California, Berkeley. She holds a bachelor's degree in physics from Vassar College, a bachelor's in engineering from Dartmouth College, a master's in applied physics from Columbia University and a doctorate in physics from the University of California, San Diego.

DARBY HOOVER is a resource specialist with NRDC's urban program. She specializes in issues related to the paper industry, solid waste management and recycling, and works with corporations to promote environmental paper product procurement. Prior to joining NRDC in 2004, Darby was the executive director of the Recycled Paper Coalition, a group of over 270 private and public sector organizations dedicated to the purchase and promotion of recycled paper products. Darby received her bachelor's degree from Stanford University and her master's in energy and resources from the University of California, Berkeley.

CARA A. HOROWITZ is a project attorney in NRDC's Los Angeles office. Her work focuses on the protection of marine mammals through international advocacy and enforcement of domestic laws, including the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Before joining NRDC, she clerked for the Honorable Dorothy W. Nelson on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and worked in private practice. She is a graduate of Yale College and the UCLA School of Law.

NOAH HOROWITZ is a senior scientist in NRDC's energy program and works on a wide range of energy efficiency issues, including voluntary programs and collaborations with industry, as well as the development of mandatory codes and standards at the state and national level. His areas of expertise include residential lighting and appliances, consumer electronics and IT equipment and energy-saving "cool" roofs. Prior to joining NRDC in 1997, Noah was manager of environmental programs for the Quaker Oats Company. He holds a master's degree in environmental engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology and a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University.

ALBERT HUANG is an environmental justice attorney with NRDC's urban program in New York. In addition to litigation, his work focuses on regional and national environmental justice policy advocacy and development. Prior to joining NRDC, Al was a policy advocate at Environmental Health Coalition, a community-based grassroots organization, where he worked on water quality, environmental justice and energy issues in California. He is a graduate of Vermont Law School.
