JOHANNA H. WALD is a senior attorney with NRDC's land program. A graduate of the Yale Law School, Johanna is a nationally recognized expert on issues relating to the management of federal lands and resources. She has been with NRDC since 1973. The author of a number of reports and other publications, Johanna was named the National Wildlife Federation's "Lawyer of the Year" in 1992 and one of ten Pew Scholars in Conservation and the Environment in 1993. She serves on the boards of the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance and the Campaign for America's Wilderness and, since 2003, as a member of the Environment Commission of San Francisco.

JOHN D. WALKE is a senior attorney and director of the clean air project with NRDC's air and energy program. Prior to joining NRDC, John worked for the EPA, in the air and radiation law office of the Office of General Counsel. Before joining the EPA, he worked for a private law firm in Washington, DC, where his practice concentrated on the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act. He is a graduate of Duke University and Harvard Law School.

MICHAEL E. WALL leads NRDC's San Francisco litigation team. He is a senior attorney who focuses on complex litigation to protect public health and the environment. Prior to joining NRDC, Michael practiced law at a private San Francisco law firm and, from 1994 to 1997, served in the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Michael graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Law School and clerked for Judge Edward E. Carnes on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

ALEX WANG is a lawyer and director of NRDC's China environmental law and public participation project. Based in Beijing, he works with Chinese government and civil society partners to develop better policy and capacity in environmental enforcement, public participation and environmental legal advocacy. Prior to joining NRDC, he practiced law at a private firm in New York and served as a Fulbright scholar in China. He is a graduate of Duke University and the New York University School of Law.

DEVRA WANG is a scientist with NRDC's energy program. Based in the San Francisco office, she works on promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy resources through research and advocacy in local, state and regional forums. Prior to joining NRDC in 2002, Devra worked on energy policy at the California Energy Commission during the 2001 energy crisis, and conducted research on renewable energy and long-term power contracts at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. She holds a master's degree in energy and resources and a bachelor's in engineering, both from the University of California at Berkeley.

WESLEY WARREN is NRDC's director of programs. He is a recognized expert on federal budgetary and regulatory procedures, especially as they relate to environmental programs. Before joining NRDC in 2001, Wesley served in the White House as associate director of the Natural Resources, Energy and Science Division of the Office of Management and Budget. During his seven-year tenure in the White House, Wesley also held positions as chief-of-staff for the Council on Environmental Quality and executive director of the Task Force on Livable Communities.

KAREN WAYLAND is NRDC's legislative director. She works with NRDC staff to develop strategies for advancing environmental legislation and lobbies Congress on behalf of the organization. She co-writes NRDC's popular web bulletin, Legislative Watch, which tracks environmental legislation pending before Congress. Before joining NRDC, Karen worked as a legislative fellow for Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) on nuclear waste, water, energy and Native American issues. She was also the program manager for earth and marine sciences at Earthwatch. Karen holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Connecticut and a dual Ph.D. in geology and resource development from Michigan State University.

LOUISA WILLCOX is NRDC's wild bears project director and is based in Livingston, Montana. From 1997-2002, she served as project coordinator for the Sierra Clubs grizzly bear ecosystems project, a campaign to recover the grizzly in the lower 48 states. Louisa served as program director for the Greater Yellowstone Coalition from 1985-1995. In addition to her NRDC work, she is the board president of Grizzly People. She holds a master's degree from the School of Forestry at Yale University and a bachelor's degree from Williams College.

MAE WU is a program attorney in NRDC's health and environment program. Her litigation and advocacy work focuses on the regulation of pesticides, toxins and drinking water. Mae practiced at private firms in San Francisco before joining NRDC's Washington, D.C., office. She received an undergraduate degree from Rice University, a law degree from the Duke University School of Law and a master's degree from the University of Cambridge.
