CHAPTER ONE: GENERAL INFORMATION
News Sources: Federal Government
Given the vast resources of commercial news sources on the Internet (e.g., wire services, newspapers, magazines, journals), this section is limited to official news sources, where announcements from federal agencies and officials are posted online. To track commercial news, we find these commercial services consistently fast and useful in retrieving news stories: Excite NewsTracker at http://nt.excite.com, Lycos News Search at http://www.topnews.com/index.html, and Yahoo News at http://www.yahoo.com/News.
The best single source of current releases and government information relating to foreign affairs is the Washington File maintained by the U.S. Information Agency for its posts overseas, and consisting of articles by USIA correspondents, texts of speeches, and transcripts of news briefings. The Gopher collection can be searched at http://www.usia.gov/products/research.htm and http://184.108.40.206/11s/archives.
