CHAPTER ONE: GENERAL INFORMATION
Technical Report and Publication Repositories
In addition to the National Technical Information Service (NTIS) mentioned above, various departments and agencies produce and distribute their own technical reports. No single database exists, particularly on national security related and classified reports. This sections lists various resources to find technical reports from DOD, DOE, EPA, IAEA and NASA. Additional resources are listed in: Appendix B (DOE Policy, Technical and Environmental Reports), which includes major Technical Reports, nuclear energy publications, and Environmental Impact Statements and Assessments by title; Appendix C (DOD and DOE Directives and Manuals), which includes a listing of Department of Defense Nuclear-Related Directives, Air Force Nuclear Weapons-Related Instructions and Documents, and DOE Nuclear Weapons-Related Directives, Guide, Pamphlets and Notices.
Department of Defense
Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC)
DOD central clearinghouse for technical information, with numerous publicly accessible resources and databases.
DTIC-produced periodic review of technical reports in thematic areas. One of the first produced is on the subject of proliferation and nonproliferation.
Scientific and Technical Information Network (STINET)
Searchable citation database of the last 11 years of DTIC's unclassified, unlimited technical reports, plus access to DOE and NASA databases. A limited number of full-text reports is online via DTIC at http://www.dtic.mil/stinet/public-stinet/str/TR_Fulltext.html.
Department of Energy
OSTI Products and Services
The Reports Bibliographic Database maintained by the Office of Scientific and Technical Information is a searchable library of DOE reports sent to Depository libraries from January 1994-present. It can be accessed at http://apollo.osti.gov/html/dra/dra.html or http://www.doe.gov/html/dra/dra.html.
DOE Administrative Reference Shelf
Reference material, telephone numbers, DOE Directives, Strategic Plans, etc.
DOE Invention Licensing and DOE Patent Databases
Database of approximately 1500 DOE-owned unexpired U.S. patented inventions, available for license to applicants with satisfactory plans for commercial use.
DOE Lessons Learned Homepage
DOE Technology Information Network (DTIN)
Organization to encourage technology based partnerships with industry, with a searchable database of DOE projects and areas of expertise of use for outside partnerships.
Energy Research Abstracts
Searchable WAIS database of DOE reports from January 1996 with abstracts.

LBL Full-Text Archive
Los Alamos Reports OnLine Archives
Almost 10,000 Los Alamos technical reports are available in electronic form and can be accessed through the Library's online catalog (above). Many of the laboratory divisions also provide lists, or texts of, their own technical reports.

Scientific and Technical Aerospace Reports, Semimonthly Abstracts Journal
Field searchable WAIS database which contains NASA produced technical reports and aerospace-related open literature from 1970 through current.
Center for AeroSpace Information (CASI) Technical Report Server (RECONselect)
RECON (REsearch CONnection) is the NASA in-house bibliographic database of aerospace and aeronautic materials containing over three million records, including citations for open literature and technical reports, 1915-present. CASI TRS (RECONselect) is a field searchable WAIS database containing from 1970 selected from the RECON database.
Selected Current Aerospace Notices (SCAN)
Updated twice monthly, E-SCAN is an announcement service listing aerospace-related scientific and technical information from around the world that has been entered into the NASA STI Database. Each issue is divided into 191 topics tailored to fit specialized research needs in subjects like earth resources and remote sensing, behavioral sciences, optics, and mechanical engineering.
