Nuclear Contamination
The once aggressive nuclear weapons effects research program, to determine the effects of nuclear weapons and the "hardness" of U.S. nuclear weapons and communications systems in a nuclear war, has now been mostly supplanted by various research efforts relating to bioeffects of nuclear materials. Still, the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute and the Defense Special Weapons Agency continue to specialize in nuclear war-related work.
