Downsize footprint, free up your life
I have hopes that this will not always be the case, but modern American life is wasteful at its core. There are myriad reasons—among them, that consumerism is the engine of our economy, that the price of things doesn't factor in their environmental costs and that our culture has come to value convenience and novelty over quality.
Living green means pushing back in two ways—(1)wasting less and (2)responsibly disposing of the waste we can't avoid. If you reduce, reuse and recycle, you're taking care of both. That's why I say, The Three R's Still Rule, and take it one step further with The 4th R: REPAIR.
You may not even be aware of the degree of waste in your life. I felt I didn't know, so I looked into it one day. See what I learned in Trashy Habits.
