Elmer's Bend, on the Esopus Creek below Phoenicia. Esopus regulars can frequently be heard to say they love and hate the river in the same breath, because deposits of fine-grained red clay often make the water cloudy. The Esopus is highly accessible to New York City, and was among the first in the Catskills to open its banks to fishermen.
