Take the Train, Help the Gulf

While there may be differences of opinion on how much oil is still harming the Gulf, no one disputes the fact that communities and businesses have been hit hard. That’s why NRDC has been providing a means to contribute to the recovery effort.

And now our partner the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) is pitching in as well. They’ve put together an educational campaign complete with a tool kit for employers, ads for placement in newsletters and press releases. Check it out here.

If you want to take action right away, all you have to do is text TRANSIT to 25383 to make a $10 donation to the NRDC Gulf Coast Recovery Fund.

Oh, and donating to recovery efforts while riding a bus or train means you’re also contributing to the bigger national effort to break our dependence on the sticky black stuff that’s spread across the Gulf. As APTA reminds us on their web site: “Public transportation use saves the equivalent of 900,000 automobile fill-ups every day.  Transit saves the U.S. the equivalent of 4.2 billion gallons of gasoline annually.” And that helps cut global warming pollution too, as documented by studies like this one.

Thanks for riding transit, and for contributing to the Gulf’s recovery.
