Bobby Andrew to EPA: Stop the Pebble Mine

Bristol Bay Faces Sept 2014 - Bobby Andrew.jpg

Today we are running the final in a series of ads in Washington, D.C. urging the Obama administration to stop the proposed Pebble Mine. The ads in Politico feature Alaskans from Bristol Bay explaining, in their own words, why it’s essential that EPA protect Bristol Bay from the Pebble Mine -- a giant gold and copper mine proposed at the headwaters of the world’s greatest wild salmon fishery, valued at $1.5 billion annually.  The Bristol Bay fishery is – and, only if protected, will remain -- the economic engine that sustains the region, its communities, and its people.

Today, you will see once again Bobby Andrew, a Yupik elder, lifetime commercial fisherman, and, since the beginning, a leader of the broad-based coalition in Bristol Bay to stop the Pebble Mine.  Bobby is a tireless and eloquent spokesperson who has traveled the world over the past decade – from the fishing communities of Bristol Bay to the mining company board rooms in London to the halls of Congress and countless federal government agencies -- to explain why the Pebble Mine is the wrong mine in the wrong place.  When the Pebble Mine is definitively laid to rest, that outcome will be in large part the product of his relentless commitment to the protection of his neighbors, his communities, and the Bristol Bay region.

It’s time for EPA to stop the massive Pebble Mine.  Take action now.
