Bi-Partisan and Broad Regional Support for More Solar in New York

I "Sun" NY

The bi-partisan NY Solar Jobs Act continues to gain momentum in the New York State legislature with over 100  legislators signing onto to the bill (33 Senators and 74 Assembly Members).  Naysayers are doing all they can to derail progress (like ConEd, which doesn’t want you generating your own clean power). We need your help keeping it on track!

Let’s Make the Empire State Open for Solar Business

To become a real leader in the growing solar industry, New York’s policymakers must make a long-term solar commitment that shows the world that the Empire State is open for solar business.

This is what a solar leader looks like:

  • Powering 500,000 New York homes with clean, reliable, local electricity
  • Creating thousands of new, well paying New York jobs in the solar employment sector, which grew ten times faster than the general economy nationwide last year
  • Delivering $3.3 billion in savings for New Yorker ratepayers by reducing the need to fire up our dirtiest and most expensive fossil power plants
  • Driving billions of dollars of private investment in the state's growing clean energy economy
  • Protecting our communities by reducing harmful emissions of mercury and smog-causing pollution. Over 65 percent of New Yorkers currently live in counties where air pollution endangers lives.
  • Reducing global warming pollution equivalent to taking 2.6 million cars off the road

New York has what it takes to be a real solar powerhouse. And yet in just the first two months of 2012, our neighbors in New Jersey installed more solar than New York has in its entire history

If our neighbors to the south have become #2 in the nation for solar energy – there’s no reason the Empire State can’t catch up, and get our hands on the same economic, public health and environmental benefits. Please ask your representatives to make New York a solar leader and support the New York Solar Jobs Act today.
