This has been a banner media week for the Stop Pebble Mine campaign: Live Science published my op-ed; the Hill published NRDC Western Director Joel Reynolds’s blog; and the Washington Post published Joel’s letter to the editor. Yesterday, the Center for American Progress issued a report finding that Pebble Mine would threaten Bristol Bay’s sustainable wild salmon-centric economy. And today, the New York Times published an op-ed from Native Alaskan and Olympic snowboarder Callan Chythlook-Sifsof.
The media frenzy leads up to the close of the public comment period for EPA’s Bristol Bay Watershed Assessment. EPA re-released its assessment in April, revealing the potentially devastating impacts that Pebble Mine would have on the watershed – and the people, salmon, wildlife, and businesses that depend on it to survive.
