Yerina Mugica
Yerina Mugica leads multidisciplinary teams to advance strategies that support strong, just, and resilient communities—communities that bring together economic, social, and environmental solutions to help maintain health and prosperity in the face of climate disruption. Mugica’s work is centered on building local capacity, scaling up best practices, and aligning policies and funding with community visions, as well as unlocking markets. She leads initiatives that support investing in energy efficiency and affordable multifamily homes and buildings, strengthening infrastructure, and reducing waste in the food system. Mugica brings over 15 years of experience researching, developing, and deploying strategies to drive better performance at the intersection of business, government, and social and environmental impact. Prior to her current role, she was the managing director of NRDC’s Center for Market Innovation, which she helped to launch in 2007. Prior to joining NRDC, Mugica worked as a consultant to government and private sector clients and later as director of product development for an internet startup firm. Mugica holds an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a concentration in sustainable enterprise and a certificate in nonprofit leadership, as well as a bachelor’s in business administration from Northeastern University. She is based in NRDC's New York office.
