Michele Knab Hasson

Equity & Community Partnerships Lead, Environmental Health

Michele Hasson oversees a team that promotes environmental health policies and programs in close collaboration with policy experts, coalitions, community groups, and non-profits at the city, state, and federal levels. To achieve equitable and just outcomes in NRDC’s advocacy, Hasson works in partnership with our Environment Equity and Justice Center (EEJC), contributing geographic strategies, metrics, and work plans—and engaging directly with community and environmental justice partners. In collaboration with EEJC, she builds the capacity of NRDC staff to work effectively with historically underrepresented communities, including BIPOC communities. Hasson, who is from Mexico City, has over 20 years of experience in policy advocacy, impact mapping and metrics, and community organizing. She began her career under the auspices of the United Nations, developing equitable frameworks for financing development, arms control, and gender justice. She has also served as policy director for the Center for Community Action and Environmental Justice, directing its legislative, public policy, and political agenda to create safer, healthier, toxic-free places for California’s environmental justice communities. She is based in NRDC’s Santa Monica office.
