Trump’s Paris Pullout Hasn’t Derailed Climate Action

WASHINGTON  – In Pittsburgh today, President Trump is expected to address his plans to formally start withdrawing the United States from the landmark Paris agreement on climate change. That can begin on November 4 by notifying the United Nations.

Jake Schmidt, managing director of the International Program at the Natural Resources Defense Council, made the following statement:

“President Trump has tried—and thankfully failed—to derail the world’s unity to fight climate change. Today 195 countries other than the U.S. are committed to the Paris Agreement. Hundreds of businesses, cities and states across our country are treating climate change as a real, ever-growing threat—and leading the march to clean energy while cutting climate pollution.

“And millions of young people are raising their voices worldwide, demanding assertive action today to protect them from climate catastrophe tomorrow.”
