NJ Governor Murphy Bans Utility Shutoffs Through March 2021

TRENTON, N.J. – New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy today issued an Executive Order, barring all water, electric, and gas shutoffs until March 15, 2021, for both investor-owned and publicly-owned utilities.

A statement follows from Larry Levine, Senior Attorney at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):

“Thanks to Governor Murphy’s steady hand of leadership, thousands of New Jerseyans won’t have to worry about their taps running dry or losing power as the winter months approach. This is a critical step that will help alleviate much hardship and save lives. This order sets the bar for other states in the region to follow suit.”
