California PUC Finalizes Solar Net Metering Decision

SAN FRANCISCO – The California Public Utilities Commission issued its final decision for Net Billing Tariff today, which establishes the state’s approach to solar rooftop and storage incentives and rates for the next five years.

Following is reaction from Mohit Chhabra, senior scientist at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):

“The CPUC’s final decision, along with California’s new community solar law, and planned updates to electric rates, will collectively grow clean distributed energy throughout the state in a robust, reliable and equitable way. The final decision gives new rooftop solar owners a shorter payoff period than the original, encourages storage adoption, maintains commitments to existing solar customers, and provides significant critical funding for low-income customers to garner the benefits of solar and storage. We look forward to working with all clean energy supporters to help ensure California’s continued leadership in growing solar, storage, and our broader clean energy economy.”
