The Road to Recovery with India’s First Green Window

As India prepares its recovery from the COVID-19 induced slowdown, a huge strategic opportunity lies in revitalizing the economy with investment in green infrastructure. While public funds deployed by the government are important in the short-run, for a self-sustaining clean energy ecosystem, private investors have to step up.

For increasing private investment in clean energy, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy had announced setting up a dedicated Green Window within the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) in December 2019. To discuss how the IREDA Green Window can catalyze private investment and spur green economic growth, IREDA, NRDC, CEEW Centre for Energy Finance (CEEW-CEF), and Climate Trends are hosting a webinar titled:

'The Road to Recovery with India’s First Green Window' on 07 July 2020, 1700-1830 hrs IST (0730-0900 hrs EST).

Registration for the webinar is available at this link.

In this webinar leading clean energy experts will discuss how catalytic green finance mechanisms such as the IREDA Green Window can be the catalyst in accelerating India’s clean energy transformation.

The webinar features special remarks from MNRE Joint Secretary Sh. B. P Yadav and has a stellar panel including Gina McCarthy, NRDC President and CEO, Arunabha Ghosh, CEO CEEW, Tony Clamp, Director, Private Sector Facility, Green Climate Fund (GCF), Manish Chourasia, Managing Director, Tata Cleantech Capital Limited, P K Das, Chairman, IREDA, Kanika Chawla, Director, CEEW Center for Energy Finance and my NRDC colleagues Douglass Sims, Director and Senior Advisor, Green Finance Center NRDC and Poonam Sandhu, Finance Expert and India Head Consultant.

The IREDA Green Window will work to develop financially underserved market segments such as storage, hybrid projects, e-mobility and distributed renewable energy with greater access to finance. It can play a market making role by using strategies such as risk mitigation, aggregation of small projects to diversify risk and to scale, strategic public-private co-investments, demonstration projects and market development activities. IREDA and partners will also be releasing a draft plan for operationalizing the Green Window in this webinar

Investing in low carbon climate resilient infrastructure can create jobs of the 21st century and ensure low-carbon economic development and increase India’s energy independence in line with the Government’s AtmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyan

The webinar is the second of our series on Green Finance in India. You can read more about the first webinar on financing electric mobility here.
