NRDC Statement on EPA's Announcement on California Waiver

WASHINGTON (February 6, 2009) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced it will reconsider its decision denying California permission to set standards controlling greenhouse gases from motor vehicles. Following is a statement by David Doniger, Policy Director of the Climate Center at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC):

"EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson is showing strong leadership by moving so quickly on California's landmark global warming standards. Approving these standards would be a bold and significant step to curb America's global warming pollution. This announcement reinforces the Obama administration’s commitment to repower America with clean, efficient energy that will jump-start the economy, cut our dependence on oil and solve our climate crisis.”
