Ernest Moniz Confirmed As Department of Energy Secretary

NRDC: “As Secretary of Energy, he now has the position, the power and the perfect opportunity to make solid progress on President Obama’s climate change goals.”

 WASHINGTON – (May 16, 2013) – The Senate today confirmed Ernest Moniz as the next Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy.

Following is a statement from Natural Resources Defense Council President Frances Beinecke:

“Ernest Moniz comes with a strong background in energy policy and science and a proven ability to work with the diverse constituencies served by the Department of Energy.

“As Secretary of Energy, he now has the position, the power and the perfect opportunity to make solid progress on President Obama’s climate change goals by continuing to move our country forward on clean energy and efficiency.

“Many of us at NRDC have worked closely with Ernie in the past, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with him in his new role.”
