Dingell Has Fought for Landmark Environmental Safeguards

WASHINGTON (June 7, 2013) – Today, Rep. John Dingell, D-MI., became the longest- serving member in the history of the United States Congress. NRDC President Frances Beinecke made the following statement:

“When John Dingell was first elected to Congress, there was no Clean Air Act, no Wilderness Act, no Endangered Species Act and no National Environmental Policy Act. His leadership was instrumental in the passage of those landmark environmental laws and securing the foundational protections they provide. Since then, he has stood up to repeated attempts to water down those protections, never more so than now. The nation, and the American people, are all the better for Rep. Dingell's service, and we look forward to continuing to work with him.”
