NRDC President Rhea Suh Urges Support for Historic Clean Power Plan

Suh Unveils Reference Manual to Bolster Case for Strong Action on Climate Change

WASHINGTON (July 15, 2015) – Rhea Suh, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council, today called for urgent and strong action to combat dangerous climate change, and released a 12-chapter resource manual that bolsters the case for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan.

“Climate change is the central environmental challenge of our time. It’s also a humanitarian challenge, an economic challenge, a public health challenge and a challenge to everyone who cares about social justice,” Suh said. “We must act now. The longer we wait, the more painful – and expensive -- the consequences will be.”

Suh made the case for the nation’s first-ever limits on carbon pollution from power plants during a meeting with reporters in NRDC’s Washington office.

NRDC’s “Clean Power: the Case for Carbon Pollution Limits,’’ is a 60-page reference book containing hundreds of footnotes and links that pulls together the most compelling information available on why we must curb carbon pollution.

“Climate change threatens our health, our communities, our economy and our security,’’ Suh said. ``We may be running out of time but, as the Clean Power Plan illustrates, we are not running out of solutions. For the sake of our children, and all future generations, we must rise to the challenge -- now.”
