Statement on Governor Cuomo’s Climate Commitments
NEW YORK, NY (October 8, 2015) — Governor Andrew Cuomo today announced four actions New York State will take to combat climate change, in a speech delivered alongside former Vice President Al Gore.
These efforts have the potential to cut greenhouse gas emissions 40 percent by 2030 and 80 percent by 2050, increase our renewable electricity to 50 percent, and cut energy waste by almost a quarter.
A statement follows from Kit Kennedy, Director of the Energy & Transportation Program at the Natural Resources Defense Council:
“Governor Cuomo’s bold plans come as the nation—and the world—are poised to take historic action on climate. The U.S. is tackling power plant pollution nationwide, countries like China and India have made groundbreaking commitments to tackle their climate emissions, and the international climate talks in Paris are fast-approaching—now is the perfect time for the state’s aggressive climate commitments. New York is moving forward with the mantle of climate and clean energy leadership.”
