NRDC President: Paris Climate Agreement Must be Ambitious

PARIS (November 30, 2015) – President Obama today addressed leaders from more than 150 nations on the opening day of landmark climate talks in Paris that seek to reach a new and durable international agreement to curb the worst impacts of climate change.

Following is a statement from Rhea Suh, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council:

“The president made it clear today: World leaders, now gathered in Paris, must develop a climate agreement that is about ambition. Ambition to chart a course to a low-carbon future that shifts us away from dirty energy. Ambition to protect people whose very survival is threatened by climate change. Ambition to vault clean energy innovation forward so we can clean up the air faster and create more jobs in communities around the world.

“And, over the next two weeks, the world’s leaders must have the ambition—united by common purpose—to take decisive action against climate change, so that we deliver to our children a world that is more peaceful, prosperous and sustainable than the one we inherited.”
