NRDC Backs Congressional Criticism of Fossil Fuel Companies on Climate Science

WASHINGTON – The Natural Resources Defense Council today endorsed a sense of the Congress resolution taking fossil fuel companies to task for misleading the public about the science of climate change. House and Senate versions were introduced by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA-33).

Dave Hawkins, Director of Climate Programs at NRDC, issued this statement:

“If fossil fuel companies misled their investors about what they knew about climate science, they should be held accountable. The companies are free to advocate on climate policy but that doesn’t give them license to hide pertinent facts from their investors, or the public. Congress should be calling attention to this matter and urging the companies to cooperate with investigations rather than stonewalling.”
