All-Encompassing Climate Fight Includes Curbing Carbon Pollution from Airplanes

WASHINGTON – The Obama Administration today released a scientific conclusion that carbon dioxide emissions from aircraft contributes to climate change, setting the stage to consider federal standards that would begin curbing that climate pollution.

David Doniger, director of the climate and clean air program at the Natural Resources Defense Council, made this comment:

“Fighting dangerous climate change requires an all-encompassing approach that curbs every important source of carbon pollution, and that means from cars and trucks, power plants and airplanes, as well as other climate pollutants like methane and HFCs. With every month this year breaking global heat records, it’s clear we must act on climate in every way possible, and now.”

In addition, NRDC recently released its annual Aviation Biofuel Sustainability Scorecard, which rates individual airlines on sourcing sustainably produced biofuels and shows that a number of airlines are moving to low-carbon fuels and designing more efficient aircraft.
