Alan Horn to Succeed Dan Tishman as Chair of NRDC Board of Trustees
NEW YORK – The board of trustees of the Natural Resources Defense Council has named long-term board member Alan F. Horn as NRDC chair, charged with leading the organization into a new era of environmental advocacy grounded in sound science, the public interest and the rule of law.
Effective Jan. 1, 2018, Horn will succeed Daniel R. Tishman, who has served as chair since 2008. During that time, Tishman guided NRDC through a decade of assertive work aimed at protecting clean air, safe waters, healthy wildlife and lands, and pressed for effective policies at the state, local and national levels to fight the growing dangers of climate change. Tishman, chairman of Tishman Construction Corp., will continue on as a member of the board of trustees, where he has served since 1996.
“Dan has guided NRDC through unparalleled level of growth and effectiveness,” said NRDC President Rhea Suh. “He has overseen a near-doubling of our resources and staff, helped to turn us into a policy and litigation powerhouse second to none, and presided over the addition of our green business arm, Environmental Entrepreneurs. I am grateful to Dan for his decade of selfless leadership and look forward to deepening our partnership through his continuing service as a trustee.”

Horn has served since 1991 on the NRDC Board of Trustees, where he has been vice chair since 1995. He is chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, where he oversees worldwide production, distribution and marketing of films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm, as well as Disney’s music and theatrical groups.
Horn, who served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force, is a graduate of Union College in New York and of the Harvard Business School, where he earned a master’s of business administration degree.
