Cuomo Promises Progress for Key Clean Energy and Environmental Issues in 2018 State of the State

Pledges to Boost Energy Efficiency, Tackle Hudson River Contamination and NYC Traffic Congestion

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced plans to significantly ramp up energy efficiency in the state and tackle a host of important environmental issues—from New York City traffic congestion to Hudson River contamination—in his annual State of the State agenda released this week.

A statement follows from Richard Schrader, New York Political Director at the Natural Resources Defense Council:

“Governor Cuomo’s environmental plans for the year ahead hold a great deal of promise. He has indicated a willingness to lead on a number of important environmental problems—from toxic PCBs polluting the Hudson River to traffic congestion in New York City. He announced plans to move forward with offshore wind power and to reduce power plant pollution

“The governor also committed to setting a target for increased energy efficiency statewide by Earth Day, which is not only fundamental to the fight against climate change but would cut energy bills and create good local jobs. To capture this potential, he must set a concrete and ambitious goal, coupled with a comprehensive program to reach it.

“As the Trump administration continues an all-out assault on public health and the environment, leadership at the state level is more important than ever. We look forward to working with Governor Cuomo to deliver on the commitments he has made today.”
