WASHINGTON - President Trump distanced the United States further from the global consensus on fighting climate change Saturday, becoming the only world leader at the Group of 20 summit in Buenos Aires to not commit to implementing the 2015 Paris climate agreement.
Rhea Suh, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council, made the following statement:
"One week ago, hundreds of experts from 13 U.S. agencies documented the ongoing damage and rising costs of climate change across the United States. Trump responds by setting the nation at odds with science, the world community and what’s happening outside our front doors.
"While other nations race forward on a mission to avert climate catastrophe, Trump has set our country on a fool’s errand, anchoring our future to the dirty fuels of the past, turning our back on our global partners and leaving our kids to pay the price. That’s not leadership. It’s a betrayal of all leadership requires."
