Trump Shutdown Imperils Important Protections

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump followed through on his threat to shut down the government. Shuttering the government imperils crucial protections for our air and water, for chemical safety and for public lands -- while furloughing tens of thousands of federal workers during the holiday season.

The following is a statement by John Bowman, senior director for federal affairs at the Natural Resources Defense Council:

“Shutting down government agencies in a fit of pique is the height of irresponsibility. Our leaders should govern responsibly, not throw temper tantrums.”
