Disaster Relief Long Overdue for Gulf Coast, Puerto Rico

WASHINGTON – Congress passed a $19 billion package of aid for those hit by flooding this year and hurricanes last year after months of delay.

The following is a statement from Brian Siu, director of federal affairs at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC):

“Better late than never. There should be no place for playing politics when it comes to providing disaster assistance to storm victims. The good people in the Midwest, the Gulf Coast, Puerto Rico and elsewhere have waited far, far too long.

“The administration must now move with alacrity to get this help to those who have been trying to get their lives back on track.”
