NEW YORK, N.Y. – At an event with former Vice President Al Gore, Governor Andrew Cuomo today announced he will sign into law the New York Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act – groundbreaking legislation that requires the state to achieve a 70 percent renewable electricity supply by 2030 and 100 percent zero emissions electricity supply by 2040, and prioritize equity in implementing these requirements.

A statement follows from Mitch Bernard, President at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC):
“This is a watershed moment in New York’s legacy of bold climate action and an inspiration for the rest of the nation. The new law will help supercharge New York’s clean energy economy, cut climate pollution, and help create a more equitable society. This historic success demonstrates just how much can be achieved through untiring advocacy, perseverance, and a commitment to justice. It is proof-positive that we can rise to the challenge before us, and secure a better future for our children and grandchildren.”
