EPA Censoring Science to Block Health Safeguards

WASHINGTON  –The House Science Committee is holding a hearing today on a proposal by the Trump Environmental Protection Agency to limit the use of scientific data and research in federal rulemaking, which could block environmental standards that would protect public health.

The following is a statement by John Walke, clean air director in the Climate & Clean Energy program at the Natural Resources Defense Council:

“Science has unequivocally shown that air pollution, water contamination and climate instability harm our health. Instead of working to curb the health threats, the Trump EPA is doing backflips to undermine the science, just so industry can pollute more. But here's the good news: EPA's 11th-hour shift to an obscure 1966 housekeeping law for its ridiculous claim of legal authority is a sign of desperation, an admission of helplessness and confirmation of the abject failure of the agency’s Censored Science rulemaking.”
