New York State Advances Bold “Make-Ready” Electric Vehicle Order

ALBANY, N.Y. – The New York State Department of Public Service (DPS) today released the final order on the state’s “Make-Ready” program for Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment and Infrastructure. The program will invest over $700 million, $200 million directly in environmental justice communities, to support clean transportation expansion statewide. The order also calls upon New York’s six investor-owned utilities to install over 53,000 Level 2 charging stations and 1,500 Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) stations by 2025, and sets the state up to achieve its zero-emission vehicle goals.

A statement follows from Kathy Harris, Clean Vehicles and Fuels Advocate at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):

“Avoiding the most destructive impacts of climate change requires that we ramp-up our clean transportation network, and fast. This ambitious program will help New Yorkers ditch petroleum for electric vehicles, create good-paying jobs and keep more energy dollars in the state. Above all, this order means less pollution, healthier neighborhoods and greater access to clean transportation for all New Yorkers.”
