WASHINGTON – The House Energy and Commerce Committee is scheduled to vote on Monday on landmark legislation moving the country to 80 percent clean electricity, expanding clean vehicles, creating jobs and protecting communities from unsafe drinking water and climate impacts.
The following is a statement from John Bowman, managing director for Government Affairs at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):
“The House Energy and Commerce Committee is poised to take historic action next week—advancing legislation that would create millions of jobs while investing in programs that will advance climate, health, and equity protections for people all across the country. This bill makes strong investments in clean electricity, electric vehicles, pollution-free buildings, replacing lead pipes and curbing pollution in communities most impacted by climate change.
“Under Speaker Pelosi’s leadership, other House committees are scheduled to act on other key parts of President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda, as early as next week. When the Senate considers these crucial climate and equity investments, it must not shortchange long overdue, unmet needs and leave millions of people behind.”
