NRDC Statement on Climate Smart CARB Appointments

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom appointed six members to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) late yesterday.

Diane Takvorian is reappointed as a Public Member and John Eisenhut has been reappointed as the Agriculture Member, along with four new Board appointees The state senate must confirm the appointments within a year.

Following is a statement from NRDC’s Victoria Rome, director of California government affairs:

“The Air Resources Board is at the forefront developing pathbreaking rules to clear the air and fight climate change. The  board members have a challenging task ahead, but we are confident that they will be guided by science and what’s best for public health and our climate future. The two members tapped to continue serving on the Board have demonstrated their ability to balance input from all stakeholders while keeping community health and well-being as the North Star.

“Ms. Takvorian is a wealth of institutional knowledge and brings an invaluable community perspective. Her belief that frontline communities deserve to be at the table is an essential asset. Mr. Eisenhut’s extensive agricultural experience has allowed him to serve as an effective bridge between the farming industry and environmental and equity advocates. He is uniquely situated as a Board Member living in the San Joaquin Valley, representing thousands of agricultural workers who breathe some of the worst air in the state.

"NRDC looks forward to working with Takvorian, Eisenhut and the other new appointments to address the challenges facing California and our country."
