League of Women Voters calls for closing oil and gas loopholes in environmental laws

The national League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization with hundreds of local leagues nationwide. The League just concluded its biennial convention. The League adopted a resolution in support of safe drilling and mining for energy resources. Among other things, the League calls for "strengthening of appropriate regulation, oversight, inspection, and penalties associated with the development of fossil fuel resources." The League also supported elimination of exemptions in our federal laws for drilling and mining, including the Halliburton Loophole for hydraulic fracturing in the Safe Drinking Water Act, as well as loopholes in the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
